Study of impact of network and source time scales on feedback

چکیده
In this study, the problem of multiplexing VBR and ABR traac is considered. VBR is uncontrollable, while ABR is provided the remaining service capacity in a controllable fashion. While in a given state, the VBR source is supposed to transmit at a xed rate; the VBR time scale is then deened in terms of the time constant associated with the rate of change of the rate of the VBR source. ABR sources are assumed to be at some distance from the multiplexing network node; the network speed deenes the network time scale which determines the distance (in network slots) between the ABR sources and the node. Finally, the minimum tolerable ABR rate (or the speed at which the ABR source can generate data units to be cellized) deene the source time scale. While it is known that the increased network transmission speed (decreased network time scale) reduces the eeectiveness of feedback-based adaptive rate control mechanisms due to the increased bandwidth propagation delay product, the positive impact of the VBR and ABR time scales has not been considered in the past. In this work a tractable analytical model is considered and the impact of the three time scales is investigated.

متن کاملToward a Time-scale Based Framework for Abr Traac Management
This paper discusses some issues and possibilities for more eeective ABR (Available Bit Rate) traac management which arise from a careful consideration of various time scales present in an ATM networking environment. Since the ABR applications will typically use the remaining resources after CBR (Constant Bit Rate) and VBR (Variable Bit Rate) applications have been accommodated, the ABR rate sh...
متن کاملA Novel Approach to Trace Time-Domain Trajectories of Power Systems in Multiple Time Scales Based Flatness
This paper works on the concept of flatness and its practical application for the design of an optimal transient controller in a synchronous machine. The feedback linearization scheme of interest requires the generation of a flat output from which the feedback control law can easily be designed. Thus the computation of the flat output for reduced order model of the synchronous machine with simp...
متن کاملRole of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study
Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...
